A Break

A Break

May I take a break from leading a perfect life
and surrender to last hope for soul’s downslide?
The strengh that it takes to maintain my place in line
it slits my guts and it crushes my spine
What did Columbus feel steering by the stars at night
sailing in search for the isles of spice?
(Was he thinking)

I started far from here
My aims and plans constructed so full of fear -
make them disappear
It took a fair share of luck
now I feel so wary old & stuck –
I’ve run out of luck

My smiles they were fake my words they concealed despair
Frightened for the worst gasping for air
Cause sometimes this life feels so cruel and so unfair
crying out that I wish I had a spare
(That’s why I’m singing)

I travelled time and space
hunting down emotions to erase -
would I ever face
A life in ecstasy
gambling the tiniest chance I’d meet -
searching frantically
There’s still much more to learn
run run run then take another turn -
counting what I’d earn
now that’s none of my concern

and now I feel too weak to open my mouth to speak

May I take a break to breathe and let out a sigh
and find out what I truly need in life?
