Sad Old Lullaby

from Terrestrian Hymns by Bateau Ivre

/

lyrics

Victoria wakes from a stormy night says the time is right
slept among snakes and all the memories made it hard to breathe
and so she waves a last goodbye at the passers-by

did she ever care to love me?
would she come back and haunt me?
saucer eyes and graveyard smiles

or would she come to see reason?
treasure or treason
and sing me a sad old lullaby

Victoria waits with a razor blade for heart to race
girl it's not too late make no mistake would be such a waste
a narrow escape from the soothing sight of a warm bright light

did she ever care to love me?
would she come back and haunt me?
saucer eyes and graveyard smiles

or would she come to see reason?
treasure or treason
and sing me a sad old lullaby?

ah yes, I knew of her twisted truth
proud as a queen
wax for the bees
wood for the trees

oh how she ached for her bones to break
out in the street
swallowing seeds
meat for the feast

did you ever care to love me?
would you come back and haunt me?
saucer eyes and graveyard smiles

or would you come to see reason?
treasure or treason
and sing me that sad old lullaby

and will you know where to find me?
to bring ache and disease
for I never said goodbye
